New fluoride standards apply
May 18, 2015

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has revised the recommendations for optimal fluoride levels in public water supplies, closing the range from 0.7 to 1.2 ppm to now simply the lower bound of that range, 0.7 ppm. The agency says Americans are exposed to fluoride in enough other places that they don't need to get the full allotment from public drinking water. Fluoridation of public water supplies has been a resounding success for public health in the United States, and it is good to see that the recommendations are adapting in the presence of new evidence and changed circumstances.
